This issue’s member spotlight is on Michael Younts!
When did you first hear about the IES and what prompted you to join?
I heard about the IES soon after starting in the industry in the early 2000’s and attended the meetings whenever I could. I joined to support the mission of IES and to formalize my long term participation.
At what point in your career did you come to understand lighting was the career path for you?
I realized lighting was a career path that I would focus on early on. I enjoyed the three dimensional aspect of the design and modeling. It was unlike anything else in the electrical discipline.
Major projects that I have worked on recently include ACE Theatre Lighting Upgrades at UNC School of the Arts, Fuquay-Varina High School, Fuller Elementary School, & Leesville Road Campus (ES, MS, & HS). I have recently performed facility conditions assessments for Wake County, Cumberland County, Appalachian State University, & the City of Sanford.
When not serving the advancement of the art and science of lighting, how do you like to spend your free time?
I like to spend my time hiking, watching sports, and sampling our local craft beers.
