May LightHouse Education Program: Causes of Excess Color Changes in Streetlights

May 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

IES Raleigh Section | LightHouse Education Program | Causes of Excess Color Changes in Streetlights

Over the last couple of years, there have been numerous reports of excessive color changes in streetlights resulting in a change from white to colors that are well off the Planckian Locus (e.g., purple, blue). This presentations covers an examination of 28 LED light engines taken from warranty replacements of field products that exhibited visually excessive color changes. These LED light engines were characterized using a combination of visual, photometric, and thermal measurements, and the root cause of the gross color change was identified and will be discussed.

Free for Members & Guests

Points to be Discussed

  • Different LED packages used in lighting
  • Representing color changes in LEDs using chromaticity diagrams

  • Q&A will follow at end of presentation
